Support from the beloved and parents towards the vacancy in the American Congress…
The American Dream. Born in São Paulo, Bruno Portigliatti (32) lives one and is doing more: putting himself at the service of the Florida community, in the next election, on August 18, for the primaries, as a candidate for a seat in District 44 of the House of Representatives of State by the conservative Republican party — which is equivalent, in Brazil, to running for state deputy. The election, in American terms, means visiting houses, talking to individual voters, a much more personal “confrontation” than here — and Bruno has a formal and polite conversation, but at the same time, friendly, ideal for politics. “I have a passion for people and for serving. I’ve always been very active civically and I want to contribute to my society”, says Bruno, who, in 1999, aged 11, left a comfortable life in Brazil to move with his family to Orlando. “Which was not easy, especially at school. The American school system accepted me with open arms, but the integration with the other students was not like that”, he recalls. “These were experiences that tested my character and made me grow emotionally”, he recalls, outlining that classic image of a foreigner among the not always receptive and friendly native children.
The Portigliattis’ American history began when their father, Anthony (64), of Argentine origin, went to teach at the small Florida Theological Seminary and formed a strong bond with the founder, Harold Shindoll, who, some time later, passed away; that’s when the widow invited him to take over the place. He then, over the years, turned it into a great university in the areas of Education, Administration, Behavior and Theology, including master’s and doctorate degrees — and which since 2017 is presided over by his son, Bruno. “I studied a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Spanish and a master’s degree in administration, since my 11 job at the university and, after completing my studies, I decided to dedicate myself fully to it”, he says. “As an adult, I always got used to being the youngest in any environment. I had this feeling of being a baby boomer in the body of a millennial”, he jokes.
With now 34 years of existence, the university is the only one authorized in the United States to offer courses in English, Portuguese and Spanish, showing the influence of the institution and, of course, of the Portigliatti family in Florida. “I make FCU a ministry, a donation of time, practically, and at the same time I develop our group’s traditional businesses, whether in real estate development and seniors, or industrial projects”, says the Brazilian. “We have built a solid history, with highly qualified professionals and students who make us proud with each achievement”, he summarizes. Currently, Bruno also promotes products from a company in which he is one of the partners, of scents for homes and commercial establishments. “The American market is the largest consumer of aromatic products on the planet, but it doesn’t have intelligent equipment in the area”, he explains, showing his entrepreneurial personality.
With such a varied range of activities, Bruno still finds time for his family. He has been married to Stephanie Figueiredo (31) since 2016. “Born in Massachusetts, she has Brazilian parents, so I had the gift of marrying someone who grew up with both cultures and speaks both languages perfectly”, he explains. The couple doesn’t have children yet, but the plan exists. “And yet this year! I love children, I consider myself a super uncle and I have a huge desire to be a father and be able to love, participate and instruct my future children… You can see that I already speak in the plural!”, he has fun. Before, Stephanie asked Bruno for a Babymoon, that is, a romantic pre-pregnancy trip. “She always wanted to visit Israel”, he says about one of his projects for the future.
